The Clooney's take Manhattan

George and Amal Clooney have bought a condo in a high-rise under construction in Midtown Manhattan. They apparently toured the penthouse - but opted for a smaller less expensive unit on one of the highest floors.

The remarkably slender, glass-walled tower, next door to Mies van der Rohe’s iconic Seagram Building on Park Avenue, was designed by lauded British architect Lord Norman Foster and offers what marketing materials for the building describe as having interiors that “elegantly conceal service functions, balance soaring views and domestic intimacy, and allocate generous space for art.”

The full-service building will pamper its wealthy residents with five-star hotel-style amenities that include a 24-hour attended lobby, an extensive wellness center and spa, a 60-foot-long indoor swimming pool, yoga and pilates rooms, a resident’s library, a “world-class culinary market” and an on-site restaurant by celebrate French chef and international restaurateur Joël Rubuchon.

The condos are in a new building, with the rather basic name of One Hundred East Fifty Third Street, that’s expected to be completed next year.

Although we don’t know exactly how much the Clooneys paid for their new digs, an active listing on the 49th floor—a 3,385-square-foot, three-bedroom unit—is currently priced at $14.75 million.

When complete, the upscale building will feature a wellness facility, swimming pool, and yoga and Pilates rooms. The first two levels will include a gourmet marketplace and restaurant.
