A Rockefeller's Maine View

What's new in Luxury Real Estate?

After philanthropist David Rockefeller died last March, his heirs put his Upper East Side townhouse on the market for sale. Ringing Point, his property on Mount Desert Island in Maine, followed, with an asking price of $19 million. Ringing Point is located in the town of Seal Harbor, Maine, on Mount Desert Island and recently sold, leaving proceeds to charity.

Reportedly, he also left large sums of money to organizations that protect Maine’s natural beauty. According to the Portland Press Herald, the philanthropist gave $20 million to the Land and Garden Preserve of Mount Desert Island in Seal Harbor and $5 million to the Maine Coast Heritage Trust.

The luxury property also comes with a guest cottage, a two-car garage, and an outbuilding housing the study where David Rockefeller wrote his memoirs. There is also a granite swimming pool, grass paths, a circular rose garden, flower gardens, an orchard, cliffs, and a beetle sculpture, which is a reminder of David Rockefeller’s impressive beetle collection.
